Recently, Horticulture Research published online the latest research results from Professor Qin Yuan's team at the Genomics Center of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University. The study explored the similar protein structure and conserved glucose transport function between the pineapple sugar transport protein AcSWEET10 and Arabidopsis AtSWEET8.

The research showed that pineapple AcSWEET10 has high similarity with Arabidopsis AtSWEET8. Yeast complementation experiments further confirmed that pineapple AcSWEET10 can transport glucose, and key amino acid mutations would reduce its transport capability. In addition, AcSWEET10 can complement the pollen and fruit set defects of the Arabidopsis AtSWEET8 mutant.

In summary, through multi-angle analysis, the research team revealed that pineapple AcSWEET10 has a glucose transport function similar to Arabidopsis AtSWEET8, providing molecular evidence for the evolutionary conservation of plant sugar transport proteins.
