New Progress in Grape Growth and Quality Fluctuations and Response to Climate Change

Grapes are one of the most widely planted and economically valuable fruit trees worldwide. The yield and quality of grapes are closely related to the climate and soil conditions of the vineyard. How to measure and distinguish the impact of climate factors and vineyard water status on grape yield and quality is a key issue in achieving sustainable development of the grape industry.
Horticulture Research published a research paper entitled “GrapevineXL reliably predicts multi-annual dynamics of vine water status, berry growth, and sugar accumulation in vineyards” from Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. This study improved and applied the GrapevineXL functional structure model under field conditions.
The research results showed that the model can accurately predict the inter-annual dynamic changes of vine water status, berry growth, and sugar accumulation in the field; The prediction results indicate that the impact of early phenological period caused by climate change on grape growth and sugar accumulation depends on different patterns of climate and soil moisture changes.
