Horsetail beefwood (Casuarina equisetifolia) has excellent characteristics such as wind resistance, salt alkali resistance, high drought resistance, barren resistance, and the ability to form nitrogen fixing nodules. It was first recorded in the "Xinhua Bencao Gangyao" and was commonly used to treat cough, hernia, diarrhea with cold-damp syndrome and dysuria.
C. equisetifolia, C. glauca, and C. cunninghamiana are three widely introduced and applied species in China. These three different species have their own characteristics, and comparative genomics can provide an important basis for revealing the differences between the three species.
Recently, an article entitled "Chromosome-scale de novo genome assembly and annotation of three representative Casuarina species: C. equisetifolia, C. glauca, and C. cunninghamiana" reported chromosome level genomic data and epigenetic research results related to gender differentiation of three species of Casuarina equisetifolia. It provides reference for revealing the morphological differences of the three species at the genetic level.
