Recently, the Vegetable Genetics and Breeding Team of Hebei Agricultural University published a research paper on Genome Biology entitled "Single-cell transcriptome reveals dominant subgenome expression and transcriptional response to heat stress in Chinese cabbage” and mapped the single-cell transcription map of stem tip, leaf of Chinese cabbage and leaf in response to high temperature.
Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa ssp. pekinensis) is a vegetable crop belonging to Brassica genus in the family of Brassicaceae, and its leaf is used as its edible organ. However, it is still unclear how the molecular regulatory network of leaf development cooperates among different cell types. The emerging single-cell transcriptome sequencing technology makes it possible to explore the functional differentiation of cells in high throughput. Therefore, mapping the single-cell transcriptional map of Chinese cabbage will provide a new understanding of the transcriptional regulation of Brassica crop development.
This study found that the dominant subgenome also has expression advantages in different cell types, and there are differences in the functions of dominant expression genes in different cell types, as well as differences in the expression patterns of homologous genes in different cell types, which provides an important reference for genome polyploidy research.
